Audrey Elaine Covin, born December 3, 1947, was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, dedicated educator, and beloved coach whose life was marked by service, faith in young people, and an unwavering Auburn spirit.
Elaine was married for 55 years to the love of her life, the late Danny Covin. Together they built a family rooted in love and perseverance. She was a proud mother to three sons: Tim Covin (Audra), Toby Covin, (Jill) and the late Tracy Covin. Her legacy continues through her four grandchildren—Pierson Parker, Lisa Ripple(Brandon), Averie Covin, and Wyatt Covin—and her cherished great-granddaughter, Magnolia Grace Ripple.
Elaine graduated from Lyeffion High School with the Class of 1966. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Livingston University and later received her master’s degree from Troy State University. Her passion for education defined her life’s work. She taught school in Conecuh County for 25 years, touching countless lives with her encouragement, discipline, and genuine care for her students.
After retiring from the classroom, Elaine’s love for mentoring young people continued through athletics. She served as a softball coach at Alabama Southern Community College for 16 years and later at Sparta Academy for 8 years. Her leadership and knowledge of the game earned her the honor of serving as an assistant coach on the NJCAA All-Star Team for two seasons.
Elaine was preceded in death by her grandparents, Horace and Florence Long; her father, Alvin Grace; her mother and stepfather, T-Buck and Betty Powell; her husband, Danny Covin; and her son, Tracy Covin. She was a member of Lyeffion Baptist church and attended Old town Baptist Church.
Those who knew Elaine knew her deep love for young people and her joy in teaching and coaching them—not just the skills of a subject or a sport, but lessons about character, confidence, and determination. She was also a lifelong and enthusiastic supporter of Auburn University Athletics, cheering them on with pride and passion. War Eagle.
Audrey Elaine Covin will be remembered for her strength, dedication, and the countless lives she shaped through education and coaching. Her influence lives on in her family, her students, her players, and all who were blessed to know her.
Elaine Went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2025. The family will receive friends and relatives at Cope Keahey Funeral Home (705 Perryman St Evergreen Al) From 12:30- 2:00 Sunday December 28, 2025 and a grave side service will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen, with Rev. Kevin Ward officiating.
