Danny was an avid outdoorsman, a brilliant handyman, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Known asDanny to some, he was more affectionately known to his family as “Danny Boy.” Danny Boy was born on September 16, 1936 in Evergreen, Alabama to Jessie Daniel Golson and Otis Benjamin Golson. He later moved to Brewton and attended T.R. Miller High School, where he played football and met his wife, Jenny. He graduated from T. R. Miller in 1954 and later completed college courses at API (Auburn University). Danny worked hard to provide for his wife and three daughters, working as an

electrician at T. R. Miller Mill Company in Brewton and Allied Paper Company in Jackson. He then worked for MacMillan Bloedel in Thomasville, where he eventually retired as a maintenance supervisor. After living in Thomasville for 25 years, Danny and Jenny moved to Wolf Bay following Danny’s retirement in 1992. It was in Wolf Bay that Danny Boy truly thrived. He fished, boated, and went on countless summer adventures with his grandchildren. Other boats who passed Danny in the water may not have thought much about the name of his boat, “Cap’n Hook” - until he waved at them and revealed that he was, in fact, the real-life Captain Hook. Beyond boating, Danny Boy also loved to fish. He taught his grandchildren how to rig up a fishing pole, bait a hook, and set crab traps. He could do everything better with one hand than the average person could do with two. The adventures of Granny and Danny Boy certainly did not stop after leaving Wolf Bay. They later moved to Lyeffion where he grew the most beautiful zinnia fields in Conecuh County. From riding the gator and chasing the dogs, to keeping the pond filled and stocked; from mowing the fields on the tractor to planting a vegetable garden every season - he stayed busy in the best way. He tended his fruit trees, collected deer antler sheds and turned them into knife handles and key chains, made birdhouses out of gourds his daughters lovingly painted, picked berries and baked them into pies… and the list truly goes on. He was a professional “piddler,” always finding joy and purpose in the simple things, and he never ran out of things to do. Danny Boy is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty years, Jenny Feagin Golson; and his sister, Maurice Golson Bozeman. He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Golson Davis (Bill), Wendy Golson Lamb (Chester), and Elaine Golson Martin (Albert); his six grandchildren, Daniel Reynolds (Susan); Rachel O’Connor and Leigh Margaret Bostic (Wendy); Drake Martin, Allie Martin, and Ben Martin (Elaine); and numerous nieces, nephews, and great- grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved - and to those who were lucky, he may have slipped them a gold dollar.
